Ronnie Coleman συνέντευξη “Σπασμένα όλα” κινδυνεύει να πέσει!

by admin

The Ronline Report

Ronnie Coleman – The full story behind his latest surgery!

I check Ronnie Coleman’s Instagram, @ronniecoleman8, just about every day. A couple of weeks ago, I saw him with a neck brace talking about having recently had yet another surgery, this time on his neck. Not again! Can’t this guy catch a break? Though Ronnie didn’t make a big deal out of this newest issue, there was a very real possibility he could have been paralyzed from the neck down. I spoke to Ronnie yesterday to get the full story on what happened, how it was handled, and how he’s doing now.

Ronnie, I know you had some type of accident and that this wasn’t related to your numerous issues with your back surgeries. When did this latest injury happen?

It was either October or November, I’m not even sure.

Pain is your constant companion, so I guess that makes sense. What happened exactly?

I was at home, grilling some food out back. I walked back in the house and went to sit down. Somehow or another my feet got crossed up and I fell on my butt.

Sorry, but to be clear, were you on crutches?

No, I don’t use them at home. I just walk on my own. People think I can’t, but I just can’t walk without my crutches for long distances. Short walks are fine.

OK, please continue. You fell on your butt.

As soon as I fell, I felt a weird pain in my neck. It hurt real bad. My neck must have snapped back real fast when I fell, like whiplash in a car accident. I didn’t think anything of it, because I fall at home all the time. I’ve screamed and yelled and scared everybody here. This day I was by myself; nobody was home. I got myself back up and sat down in the chair right away and thought to myself, man, my neck really hurts. I didn’t think it was too bad because I didn’t hear anything pop or snap, nothing like that. When I herniated the disks in my back over 20 years ago, I heard a loud pop that sounded just like a gunshot. This time I thought, it hurts, but it will go away in a couple of days.

But it didn’t.

Nope! It got worse and worse as the days and weeks went by. I still kept thinking any day now it’s gonna start feeling better. It finally got to the point where I couldn’t bear the pain. I went to my doctor for an MRI, but she didn’t want to do it. Instead she gave me an epidural, and it got even worse.

An epidural is a pain blocker injected directly into your spine, which is supposed to stop any and all pain. But not for you?

No, so now I had an MRI done. We were reviewing the results, and she says now I see why you’re in so much pain. You herniated a disk. I said oh no, not another one. Not only that, the cage that was in there from the cervical fusion surgery I had done in 2011 to fuse C4, 5, and 6, where they also put plastic spacers between those vertebrae. The reason the epidural wouldn’t work is because my spine has narrowed, and there’s not enough spinal fluid in there. She sent me to a specialist the next day. He looked at the MRI and took an X-ray and said, this is really bad. You need surgery tomorrow! The herniation is pushing against your spinal cord. If you fell again and severed it, you would be paralyzed from the neck down.

Broken cervical fusion cage removed in January 14 procedure.

Good Lord, Ronnie.

So he wanted to perform the surgery the next day. But first he had to warn me of two things. He couldn’t promise me he wouldn’t cause me to become paralyzed while he was doing it, or that the pain would go away.

Not very encouraging.

Naw. He said there’s a chance that while I’m doing the procedure, I might puncture your spinal cord, and you would become paralyzed. I said let me think about it and I’ll get back to you tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m thinking I need to get a second opinion. So I went to see Dr. Samir Lapsiwala, who had done my latest back surgery in September 2018. He looked at the X-ray and also said I needed surgery as soon as possible. He saw the cage was broken and the herniated disk was pushing against my spinal cord. Dr. Lapsiwala said he would take out the broken cage, fuse my C3, 4, 5, and 6 together, and put a new cage in.

Everything they put inside you seems to break.

The newest screws are holding up. Anyway, he said probably the reason the cage broke is because it never healed properly in the first place. He said I would need to wear a neck brace for four weeks this time to make sure it would fully heal. He was a lot more positive than the first surgeon had been. He said the surgery would last about 90 minutes, and I would have no pain once it healed. I would even get to go home the next day, which I have never done. I’m usually in the hospital for a few days. I’m like cool, that all sounds good to me. Let’s do it. Surgery was the next day.

Did Dr. Lapsiwala warn you that he might accidentally paralyze you?

No, not at all. I had it done, and a couple of days later the pain was gone except for what you would expect from a procedure like this being done to you. I took pain pills for that and slept that whole day.

When was the surgery?

January 14.

You had four disks in your neck fused together. Are you able to turn your head?

I can turn my head, even with the neck brace on. My neck just doesn’t bend forward and backward in that area. I’m all good now. Not in any pain at all. The doctor fixed me up real good. He’s the best surgeon I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few.

Was this your 12th surgery?

Either 11 or 12, even I lost count, I’ve had so many.

New cage installed.

How is your back doing?

That’s healed up pretty good now. He put 10 screws in there, two new cages, and rods though my hips and into my femurs to keep it all in place. He said the femur is the best bone to attach it to. It’s strong but it’s also soft bone.

I always thought it was hard, because people use them as clubs in movies sometimes.

Yeah, I thought it was a very hard bone too.

Have you seen your documentary yet?

Naw, I don’t have Netflix, I need to get that,

Who do you have winning the Arnold Classic?

Bonac should be the favorite because he won it last year, but I gotta go with Roelly. He’s a big guy and very hard to beat when he’s in shape. I heard he wasn’t looking too lean for being this close to the show, but we’ll see.

Where can people find you at the Arnold Classic?

Just like last year, they’re having a big seminar Sunday morning with past Arnold Classic champs, and I will be part of that again. We set up to take pictures and sign autographs too.

Well Ronnie, I know I say this every time, but once again I am so inspired by your positive attitude. Despite everything you’ve been through, you keep a smile on your face, you count your blessings, and never complain.

I believe that things are always going to be OK in the end. You might be going through something right now, but tomorrow is always another day, and another chance to work things out and get better.
